Saint John contemporary dance company Connection Dance Works will premiere new work by Toronto choreographer Darryl Tracy on Saturday October 14 at the Imperial Theatre.

Tracy’s work, with far arms, was conceived during his first artistic residency with the company in 2011 and has undergone several stages of development over the past six years.

“Collaborating with this group of talented artists over the last six years has been an amazing experience,” said Connection Dance Works co-founder Joanna Bryson. “I couldn’t be more proud to be bringing with far arms to the stage.”

In 2016, the original concept was further developed to include film projection, an original score and professional lighting, and has grown to become one of CDW’s most ambitious projects to date.

“I’m grateful to Darryl for his vision and to the other artists for their incredible, incredible work.” – Joanna Bryson

Developed through a series of artist residencies, with far arms is a highly collaborative work involving artists from New Brunswick and Ontario. Tracy’s vision for the project is complimented by original projection and film work created by Fredericton musician and filmmaker Chris Giles with an original score by Saint John musician Andrew Reed Miller. Award-winning light designer Michelle Ramsay added the final visual touches to the project during CDW’s week-long residency at the Imperial Theatre in 2016.

“I’m grateful to Darryl for his vision and to the other artists for their incredible, incredible work,” said Bryson.

Connection Dance Works have been engaging audiences through multi-disciplinary collaborations since 2010.  By working together with musicians, choreographers, writers, composers, visual artists, and multi-media creators, the company have become one of the province’s leading voices in contemporary dance.

In addition to the debut of with far arms, the Saturday October 14 performance will also see Tracy premiering his own highly physical and theatrical solo work, All the Patsys.
