Saint John Theatre Company to host first round of auditions for It’s A Wonderful Life June 25 & 26
(Saint John) Pulling off a Christmas miracle on stage takes a lot of hard work and early preparations. The Saint John Theatre Company (SJTC) is getting a jump start on its holiday planning this summer by hosting the first round of open auditions for its November Main Stage opener, It’s A Wonderful Life.
Adult auditions will be held on Sunday, June 25 and Monday, June 26 at 7pm. Auditions will take place at 112 Princess Street. Youth auditions will be held September 10 (more info to come).
The production will utilize elements of a golden age radio drama including heavy use of microphone line delivery as well as traditional scene work. The final cast will be compact and must all be able to deliver multiple well-defined characters. Audition material will be provided upon arrival. Actors should expect to use standing mics during the audition and to have their auditions recorded for review by the director. No reservations are required.
“There is a special energy to this time period – America in the 1940’s. There was such a drive and energy – everything was possible. You can hear it in the radio dramas of the time – sincerity and earnestness,” said the show’s director Scott Thomas. “I’m looking for actors to deliver dialogue in a bright, energized manner full of action and conviction. Moreover, actors will need to bring crisp enunciation and clarity to their vocal delivery – so important for radio. Finally, as always I am looking for actors to take chances, to play with one another and to make discoveries.”
It’s A Wonderful Life is part of the SJTC 2017-2018 Main Stage Series. The production will be staged at Imperial Theatre November 22-26, 2017. For details on subscription packages and single tickets please call Imperial Theatre box office at 1-800-323-7469.
