Fredericton Arts Alliance Artists in Residence presents Solo Chicken Productions, Gray Rabbit Theatre Co & Sarah Petite.Two local theatre companies, Solo Chicken Productions and Gray Rabbit Theatre Co., as well as established visual artist, Sarah Petite, will work on art projects as part of the summer residence series in the Soldiers’ Barracks.

The theatre companies, founded by theatre artists Lisa Anne Ross and Laura-Beth Bird, will be creating a short shadow puppetry performance. It will be based on art and poetry created by children at the Fredericton Public Library, and will be performed at the library during the end of the residency.

Sarah Petite, a well-known Fredericton artist, who has been practicing her craft for over thirty years, will use her specialized encaustic (beeswax-based) painting techniques to create three different tree paintings, and invites visitors to experiment with the style for themselves.

The studio is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Tuesday 

Open Mic Night at The Capital. Rich Gloade hosts this weekly event at The Capital. If you are a duo, or a band, stop by and try out a new tune in front of a very encouraging crowd. 9 p.m. No cover.

Outdoor Summer Concert Series: Jenn Russell Band (Big Band)This free concerts begins at 7:30 p.m. Rain Date: Wednesday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Bard in The Barracks 2019: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. 7:30 p.m. in Odell Park.

Wednesday 

Outdoor Summer Concert Series: 3 ½ Men (60s/70s Rock). 7 p.m. Lawrence Amphitheatre (Nashwaaksis Commons). Free. Rain Date: Monday, July 8 at 7 p.m.

Bard in The Barracks 2019: Measure For Measure. 7:30 p.m. in Barracks Square.

Inn Echo at The Tipsy Muse Café. With Inn Echo, each member brings their own style and sound to form a unique blend of traditional Canadian and Irish music, as well as their own originals. They also find ways of reinventing the genre using a modern approach and intricate arrangements. 7 p.m. $10. 

St. Anne’s Chapel of Ease Noon Hour Recital Series. Enjoy Amor: Kathrin Welte (mezzo-soprano) and Dianne Roxborough Brown (piano). Admission by free will donation to support the music programs at Christ Church Parish Church. 12:10 p.m.

Thursday

Young Satan In Love at The Tipsy Muse Café. Young Satan in Love is performance art/rock band/spectacle from Fredericton and you are probably taking it too seriously. 7 p.m. $10.

Alison Rose + Morohubu + Internal Night at The Capital Complex. 7 p.m. $10.

Friday 

Bard in The Barracks 2019: Measure For Measure. 7:30 p.m. in Barracks Square.

River Jam 2019 at Delta Fredericton. River Jam, a celebration of music along the St. John River and one of the summer’s most fun music events takes place the evening of Friday, July 5 at the Delta Fredericton. 5 p.m. – 2 a.m. $22-$25.  

CHIPS + Heat $heets + Sound Drown at The Capital Complex. 10 p.m. $8.

The Power of 3 with Katherine, Kylie and Jerry-Faye at The Tipsy Muse Café. Three strong female singer songwriters take the mic for a very special night of music. 7 p.m. $10.

Summer Concert Series at Christ Church Cathedral: David Drinkell. Enjoy a range of music performed on the church’s pipe organ with church organist David Drinkell. 12:10 p.m. No charge. Donations welcome.

Ewan Dobson + Samaël Pelletier + Connor Fox at Grimross Brewing Co. Ewan Dobson has established himself as one of Canada’s accomplished guitarists, having won first prize in many guitar competitions across the country. 8 p.m. $10. 

Saturday 

Bard in The Barracks 2019: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. 7:30 p.m. in Odell Park.

Art Workshop with Emma Hassencahl-Perley at The Beaverbrook Art Gallery. Emma Hassencahl-Perley, curator of Carl Beam: One Who is Brave-Hearted, will lead participants in an exploratory tour of the exhibition, followed by an experimental workshop in which participants have the chance to respond to themes of the artist’s work. Using mixed media such as stencils, collage, and watercolour, this reflective workshop will deepen participants’ understanding of Carl Beam’s work, and the exhibition on display. $15 non-members, $10 members; Ages 16 and up. Broken Sink Comedy Tour at The Tipsy Muse Café. Broken Sink Comedy is a new group based in Moncton. Glen K. Amo and Neal Mundle have over 20 years of combined experience performing for audiences across the Maritimes. They have joined forces to bring the best of East Coast comedy to audiences of all ages. 7 p.m. $10.

Honey Gut + Brian Doucette Band at Grimross Brewing Co. Honey Gut take pride in creating meaningful music from the lyrics to a genuine, unique sound that’s soulful and real. Nothing over polished nor too plain. 8 p.m. $10. 

CBC Broadcast & Concert Film Viewing Party at The Capital. Join filmmakers Tim Rayne and Arthur Thomson in celebrating the CBC broadcast of their film, The Capital Project. The event will be livestreamed outdoors on a huge screen in the Tannery followed by a special screening of the 2017 Boyce Farmer’s Market Concert with performances by The Hypochondriacs, Little You, Little Me, Motherhood, Weak Size Fish and several others. 8 p.m.

Great Canadian $10,000 Karaoke Competition at The Capital Complex. Hosts & Judges Freeda Whales& Heather Silkwill be choosing 2 winners to represent The Capital Complexat the Regional Competition in Miramichi on July 27 at Capers Pub and Eatery! 8 p.m. in The Phoenix.

Provincial Winners then receive airfare + hotel stay for the National Finals Saturday August 24th at Overtime Sports Bar in Kingston Ontario!
