Saint John’s artist-run-centre launch membership drive with April Foolish Waffle Breakfast.
Saint John’s Third Space Gallery will be holding a week-long membership drive beginning Saturday April 1 beginning with a waffle breakfast at their office at 89 Canterbury Street, Suite 407.
“The membership drive is an initiative organized by Third Space’s volunteer Membership Committee,” said Executive Director Emily Saab. “To my knowledge, this is the first time that Third Space has had a membership drive quite like this. We’ll be kicking off the drive with the Foolish Waffle Breakfast because food is an amazing thing that brings people together, waffles are so yummy and April Fools Day presents an opportunity to have some fun and get into the spirit.”
For many artists and art lovers in the Saint John region, the popular artist-run-centre has been an unfailing champion of contemporary art and has helped introduce the many to art’s limitless possibilities.
According to Saab, local businesses also recognize the Gallery’s vital community role and have stepped up to help bring new members on board.
“We have a handful of local businesses who will be supporting the drive by selling memberships in their establishments from April 1 – 7,” said Saab. “They are, Picaroons General Store, Buckland Merrifield Gallery, Handworks Gallery, The Feel Good Store, Good Fibrations, Shadowlawn Inn, Backstreet Records, TUCK Studio and Port City Royal. This is extremely helpful to us and we’re so grateful for their support.”
Membership is open to everyone. You don’t have to claim sleepless nights in front of a blank canvas to participate in Third Space activities. All you need is an interest in helping out.
“Membership is integral to Third Space,” said Saab. “As an artist-run centre, Third Space takes direction from its members. Members can sit on committees and be involved in a variety of aspects of running the gallery: designing posters, brochures, websites and publications; planning and installing exhibitions; researching and writing grants; seeking sponsorship; building networks and connections with other artists and centres across the country; fund-raising, and volunteer coordination.”
Membership fees are $20 and directly contribute to Third Space’s future programming that includes workshops, artist-talks, panel discussions, screenings, performances, exhibitions and other special events.
“Most importantly, these funds help Third Space to operate as a flexible and responsive organization,” said Saab.
