Laughter, emotion, and collaboration each play a defining role in Symphony New Brunswick’s new season.
Symphony New Brunswick has announced its 41st season, one full of exciting performances and programming.
With Musical Director Mélanie Léonard at the helm, our provincial symphony has broadened its offerings and its audience by exploring new ways to connect concert goers with classical music’s vast range of emotion.
“Our team has pulled out all the stops for the upcoming season”, says Léonard. “From our comedy inspired opener with James Mullinger in September to the closing bars of our collaboration with Twin Flames next June, we will be showcasing the orchestra in exciting new ways that will leave no doubt that Symphony NB is better than ever”.
The six-concert Bravo series opens with Symphonic Chart Toppers – the Funny Bone Edition. Perennial Saint John funny man James Mullinger will join the orchestra for a special series of performances to open the season.
In November, violinist Tara-Louise Montour brings the exquisite Phoenix Concerto to life, complemented by the orchestra’s performance of Schubert’s famous Death and the Maiden.
In March, Symphony NB partners with Sophia Recovery Centre for Hope Springs Eternal, a series that will reflect on themes of resilience, including the triumphant 7th symphony of Beethoven.
The orchestra then renews its ever-popular collaboration with Choeur Louisbourg in April with the presentation of Fauré’s moving Requiem.
In May, the orchestra’s Homeland program pairs heart and home with a trio of exhilarating works, including Sibelius’ popular Finlandia. New Brunswick’s own enchanting soprano Christina Haldane will be featured in Chansons de la mer Acadienne, composed and specially arranged for this performance by Lamèque native Frédéric Chiasson.
SNB closes out the season in early June with special guests Twin Flames, bringing their contemplative folk music and unassuming rock ‘n roll into a new symphonic experience.
In addition to the Bravo series, Symphony NB will stage its annual family concert in December. In this season’s production, Holiday Magic, the incredible Mr. Mark joins Symphony NB musicians to unwrap a special gift for the whole family.
Finally, the fan favourite classic film feature with original live music by Andrew Reed Miller returns again this year with the screening of the critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated film The China Syndrome.
