(Fredericton, NB) In October 2020, Solo Chicken Productions launched GROUNDWORKS, a weekend of  online performance workshops, led by world class instructors, where artists dipped their toes into Viewpoints, Stage Combat, Intimacy Coordination and a wealth of other forms. Beyond the joy of  training, the workshops cultivated a sense of connection and renewed creativity during a deeply challenging time. In the weeks following the event participants and artists alike echoed their desire to do it all again, but this time hoping to take a ‘full plunge’ and explore a few forms in more depth.

With that goal in mind, SCP have announced, GROUNDWORKS 2.0 with a series of three online, accessible workshops that offer artists access to world class instructors, sharing more intensive training in three forms for artists and the artistic community. The first offering brings back international performing artist and voice and movement educator Sayda Trujillo for I Have a Voice, a playful, practical exploration of the voice that aims to interrupt fixed notions of what a voice is ‘supposed to be’, and poses the question, ‘What moves us to speak?’.

Up next will be a series led by Julie Murphy, whose Quick Hit workshop in October cultivated a desire to do a deeper dive into the critical work of Physical Intimacy Coordination. In her three-part workshop series, Theatrical Intimacy Coordination for Actors & Directors, Julie will guide actors and directors through the basics of choreographing intimate scenes and share how to cultivate a safe, working environment for all.

GROUNDWORKS 2.0 ends with with Toronto-based choreographer, educator and artist Lua Shayenne leading a journey through the dances, rhythms and songs of the African continent in the workshop series, Sharing Knowledge: The Practice of Dance Rooted in African Aesthetics
