News of Costelo’s upcoming performance at Shivering Songs arrives amidst a week of announcements that so far include Dan Mangan, Jeremy Dutcher and Bedouine.
Shivering Songs continue to roll out artist announcements for the ninth edition of the festival set to take place January 22-27 in Fredericton. Today organizers have announced the addition of award-winning Halifax soul singer Erin Costelo to this year’s lineup.
“We’re happy to share that Erin Costelo will make her Shivering Songs debut this January,” said Festival co-organizer Zach Atkinson. “Halifax’s hidden treasure represents one of the most unique and powerful voices of this next generation of the Canadian songwriting tradition.”
This fall Costelo will release her new album Sweet Marie and will spend the remainder of the year touring Canada and the US.
Erin Costelo mines the truth – through writing, arranging, producing and masterful live performance. With a voice unlike any other in Canada she has the ability to successfully float between genres and stages, her unwavering vision continuously offering the best sound and voice to a feeling, idea or story. She’s had the opportunity to open for Mavis Staples, Dr. John and Bettye Lavette and has recently performed with Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble Band.
Now entering its ninth year, the 2019 Shivering Songs Festival will see programming take place over six days through a variety of venues and found spaces throughout the city.
A midwinter celebration of songwriting and storytelling, and flagship partner of Fredericton’s FROSTival, Shivering Songs hosts internationally renowned artists in historic and intimate spaces throughout Downtown Fredericton, on the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik people.
Shivering Songs 2019 will take place January 22-27. Passes go onside Friday October 5.
