Ancient Temple Recordings release new music by Anthesis and Greber via limited edition split 7″.
There’s a new record label in New Brunswick. Ancient Temple Recordings, based in Quispamsis, is the result of a partnership between two longtime music fans who share a passion for everything from grind to jazz. Under this mysterious moniker, founders Kris Hopper and Scott Miller plan to explore their combined passion for vinyl and underground sounds.
“Kris and I have talked about starting a label off and on over the past couple years,” said Miller, who is also guitarist and vocalist for the Quispamsis-based metal act, Anthesis. “It was never taken very seriously until Diminished Fifth Records (Halifax) closed its doors and Anthesis didn’t have someone to put their stuff out. It seemed like there’s no better time than now.”
The label’s first release, a limited edition split 7” from Anthesis and Cambridge, Ontario noise duo, Greber, will be available May 13 and comes in three colours of vinyl. The record will be a co-release with the Winnipeg label, No List Records.
“We’re extremely excited to have something this solid as our first output,” said Miller. “334 copies were pressed. Four test presses and 330 on green, orange & lavender vinyl. We’ve also got CDs and cassettes, which are all hand numbered and limited to 100 each. Digital and physical copies will be available via Bandcamp. Physical copies will be immediately available at the Second Spin locations in Fredericton & Saint John.”
Looking ahead, Miller and Hopper have yet to finalize their next release, but admit to having a lot of irons in the fire.
“Our second release isn’t 100% set,” said Miller. “Anthesis is recording a full length right now and we’ve been contacted by a few other bands about releasing some tunes. So there should be options there. We’re not going to rush anything and we’re only going to be putting out music that we truly believe in and support.
“We both listen to so much different music that we’re making a point to not be limited to releasing one style. We both love jazz, doom, grind, acoustic, etc, so there’s no limits to what we may release.”
ATR001: Greber/Anthesis split 7”
Greber (Cambridge, ON) is a two-piece bass/drums with dual vocals that plays sludgy grind heavy enough to implode your skull. Members also make noise with Fuck the Facts, The Great Sabatini & Biipiigwan. Their LP Kiln Hardened Psalms is available on No Why Records.
Anthesis (Quispamsis, NB) is a noisy doom/grind trio. Having released a full length and splits with Cavern & The Great Sabatini, this split 7″ with Greber shows progression from their tech/death beginning into a more noisy rock territory.
