Cedric Noel joins David R. Elliott for Canadian tour.
Well it’s about time people outside of New Brunswick get a taste of Cedric Noel’s songwriting, performing and all-around good-guy-idness. For the past five years Noel has been writing and releasing music as a solo artist and a member of several groups. But for those who truly believe in the good he’s putting out into the world, his music has remained under appreciated by a larger audience due in part to his limited touring outside of the province. Next month, audiences from Toronto to Halifax will finally get a chance to experience his music in person as he supports Saint John expat David R. Elliott as both a supporting act and a member of Elliott’s touring band, The Novellas, on a 15 date jaunt.
“I got on board earlier this year when David R. was in town,” said Noel. “He pitched the tour to me and asked if I wanted to play guitar or bass and open the shows along the way. I was into the idea so I said yes. Touring is something I’ve always wanted to do more of. I haven’t really had the chance to do more than four or five days because I was finishing up school for past few years. But I’ve been done for about a year and I have the time to tour now, which is great. I’ve been spending the last few years honing my skills as a bass player so I feel comfortable enough to jump on board for a project like David R.’s.”
Elliott recently released Sunshine, his latest and most ambitious full-length to date and will be making his first trek West in support of his new album beginning with a show on September 3, 2015 and Saint John’s Taco Pica. While fans of Noel remain patient for his new release expected to land this fall, audiences for this upcoming tour can expect to hear a wide range of songs spanning his past few years of writing.
“As per usual I have loads of ideas,” said Noel. “Because I write for a variety of different genres I’ve decided to learn three different kinds of sets: a singer-songwriter set, an ambient/drone set and a pop set which will be songs from a project I have called Dreamtime. I’m planning on perhaps starting by playing a different set each night and then maybe mixing and matching. As long as it works of course. I’ve also learnt and re-learnt some covers as well, because why not, there are so many great songs out there. It’s a lot of songs, but it’s been fun learning and rediscovering a bunch of older tunes.”
Noel is playing this week at ReNeu Boutique alongside Bernice, Devon Sproule and Cursees Connect. That show is scheduled for August 19, 2015.
“The show on Wednesday will be with full the band and will feature songs from the upcoming album, Repetition. I’m so stoked to play with Bernice and Devon Sproule. Bernice are so rad and innovative but also such a pleasure to listen to and Devon Sproule has been one of my favourite songwriters for a few years now, no joke. I honestly think she’s one of the best around.”
