On the Air is a series profiling some great local radio produced right here in Fredericton at CHSR FM 97.9. This week we turn our attention to, Homemade Jams, hosted by Erin “Bondo” Bond. Homemade Jams airs weekdays 4 – 5 p.m.
How long have you been hosting Homemade Jams?
(Bondo) Homemade Jams is celebrating it’s 4th anniversary on CHSR this October.
Give us one sentence that would explain your show to new listeners.
Showcasing some of the best bands and musicians in the East Coast music scene. 100% CANCON
Describe the usual format of your program.
The show’s format tends to differ depending on the day. Usually it’s straight out music while talking about the band and album, some days there are bands/musicians playing live in studio, some days there’s a guest host joining me. Tuesdays are new music Tuesdays, where you’ll hear new local tracks for the first time on CHSR. Fridays I try to put together a weekend mixed tape, playing bands and musicians that you can find playing around Fredericton that weekend. But everyday, you’re guaranteed to hear some music from right here in your backyard that you’re going to fall in love with.
How would you describe CHSR’s role within the community?
To me, CHSR’s role is to provide community based programming as diverse as the community we serve, and to give a voice to the community that mainstream media often fails to recognize.
Name one other CHSR program you would recommend and why you feel other people should tune it in?
You should check out CHSR Sessions every Thursday at 5pm. This is where we have bands come in and play live-off-the-floor with interview segments in between songs. Sometimes the Sessions can get super serious and you find out a whole lot more about the band and their music, other times it’s goes completely off the wall and you end up having discussions about where to find the best poutine in Canada.
