The latest single from the eclectic mind of Mike Trask taps into some familiar ground for the multi-instrumentalist, known to use a good metaphor every now and then. With his formidable rasp placed above the unexpected presence of a drum machine driving one of his most polished (or is that “well oiled”?) and straight forward garage rock inspired recordings to date, High Performance Machine is another high performance from this award-winning musician and producer.
Over the past several years, Trask – in addition to his own non-stop songwriting – has racked up an impressive amount of credits as a producer and engineer. Known for favouring vintage gear of all shapes and sizes, Trask has built a reputation as a studio guru whose distinct approach to tracking artists has resulted in some of the province’s most notable albums of the past few years including the recent debut by Grand Manan folk singer Carlene.
