In advance of their forthcoming debut album, Keegan and The Vandalorians have just released the album’s first single. Things You Tell Yourself is a challenge to self doubt and personal criticism delivered through an optimistic lens.
“We all have a voice in our head that at times tells us that we are not enough, that we are pretending, that we are just one mistake away from being revealed as a fraud,” said the band in a statement about the single.
This song is a reaction to that inner voice.
At a time when a lot of people find themselves conflicted by their true selves and the version of themselves they feed out through social media, Things You Tell Yourself is an act of therapy and confident encouragement without crossing the line into preachy territory. It says to the listener, “You’re not alone. We all feel this way. But it’s all bullshit.”
Keegan and The Vandalorians are Keegan Dobbelsteyn, Olivier Leblanc and James Rooney, a trio of musicians who have for the past several years collectively supported more than a dozen regional acts as both studio musicians and band members. Their debut album was recorded in Fredericton by Dylan Ward at Shiftwork Recording.
This single is taken from the band’s forthcoming album, The Middle Of The Day, set to arrive November 18.
