Music Runs Through It has announced big plans for the fall with five major performances at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre.
The MRTI Agency is celebrating their first anniversary with a live music series at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre beginning on September 29 with a performance by Victoria-based alt-country singer songwriter Leeroy Stagger. Stagger is an acclaimed songwriter and producer who has released 12 full length albums to his credit and has shared stages with artists ranging from The Pixies to Steve Earle.
On October 5, the Elm City String Quartet will join Christina Martin and her band to perform songs from Martin’s ECMA nominated album Storm, while Terra Spencer returns a month later for a show on November 2.
Spencer is one of those unique talents who can not only deliver the story within a song, but also has the skill to give it the emotional punch it needs. Her song, Brick and Mortar was named the winner of the Commonwealth Song Contest, beating out 20,000 other entries. She has collaborated with some of Canada’s biggest names including, David Francey, Ben Caplan, and Matt Anderson. Ron Sexsmith has called her “the real deal”. Spencer will be touring in support of her upcoming project, Sunset, scheduled for release in September.
Later in November Canadian musical legend Harry Manx will bring his otherworldly take on deep south American blues to the Arts Centre on November 21. Manx studied with musical innovator Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the inventor of the 20 stringed Mohan Veena, which has been his signature instrument for most of his career.
MRTI’s fall series wraps with a Maritime songwriting legend, PEI’s Lennie Gallant performing his holiday show, The Innkeeper’s Christmas, on November 30.
Gallant has released 15 albums (11 English and 4 French), achieved Juno recognition and a list of ECMA’s too large to list including Entertainer of The Year in 2017. In 2019, his song Peter’s Dream was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. He most recently co-wrote two songs on Jimmy Buffett’s last album and was invited to sing on it as a featured artist. His holiday show has become a staple on concert stages throughout Atlantic Canada.
