Monday Night Film Series: Macbeth

This is not the traditional stage Macbeth, crammed into claustrophobic interior spaces. It is conceived in (and almost dwarfed by) a vast Scottish plain, like Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth. As Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are a dream-team pairing, actors who radiate charisma. Cotillard is able to convey enormous amounts with her face without saying a word, and Fassbender is effortlessly virile and watchable, responding to Macbeth’s outbursts of anger and imperious paranoia.
