A true underground venue, Fredericton’s Maniac Mansion will soon be no more. To mark the end of the road, the popular DIY venue will be hosting seven live streaming concerts beginning June 26 and running until late July.

Over the past five years, the venue has hosted live performances from dozens of bands from across Canada and the United States including some from as far away as Columbia, Mexico and Russia.

The importance of venues like Maniac Mansion cannot be overstated. Born from necessity, DIY venues provide a stage for bands of all genres – not just those that may help increase bar sales – often catering uniquely intimate experiences where artists and all-ages audiences can gather to support and enjoy live music. These venues also offer much needed opportunities for young and emerging bands to perform.

With the upcoming closure of the Maniac Mansion and the on-hold status of Empire, another Fredericton DIY venue that held a couple of performances last year, Fredericton is in need of a new, affordable alternative venue space for our post-COVID future.

RIP Maniac Mansion.
