Connexion Artist Run Centre has announced the return Crit Nights, beginning this week online.

Crit Nights are back.

Connexion-ARC, Fredericton’s artist-run centre for contemporary art has announced a new series of Crit Night events to be hosted online, the first Wednesday of each month. These events are a venue for sharing feedback, ideas, and connecting artists to the wider arts community of New Brunswick. Visual artists of all backgrounds and experience levels are invited to participate in Crit Night, which will be hosted on the Zoom from 6:30-8:00 p.m. beginning this week.

“It’s always a fun time to connect with other artists during Crit Night. Especially now during the pandemic, it’s so important to find ways to be motivated to create and remain active in the arts community,” said Katrina Slade, a Fredericton-based visual artist and past participant in Connexion-ARC’s Crit Nights.

“Critique makes us all better artists, and being with other artists helps get us out of our own heads and studios. Crit Nights are for talking with artists about art in a casual setting. Some artists like to come to just be a part of the group, some share some of their past work, and others are looking for specific feedback on current work that’s in-progress,” she said.

Before the pandemic, Connexion-ARC hosted these events in their office space in the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, but have since adapted to the times holding Crit Nights on Zoom since the beginning of the lockdown.

“The great part of hosting Crit Night online is that artists outside of Fredericton can also participate, which is fantastic for building community in New Brunswick,” said Slade. “All you need is a Zoom account, a quiet place, and maybe a drink.”
