Lester Slade and Gina Burgess are returning to the east coast, touring in support of their debut album, Fireweed.
Former Moncton roots mainstay Lester Slade now makes his home in Iqaluit. That’s where he met Halifax fiddler Gina Burgess who also makes her home in Nunavut at the present time. After getting together to play some music, the two ended up producing a series of live performance videos earlier this year and have since released their debut album.
Fireweed captures Slade’s rambling howl and Burgess’ lilting, effortless accompaniment honed through years of performing as a member of The Jerry Cans and Gypsophilia. Together, the two have struck a chord that offers a fresh, energetic take on roots music that acknowledges their collective pasts and points both musicians toward new territory.
Find Fireweed on Spotify and be sure to catch an upcoming performance as Slade and Burgess make their way through the Maritimes in July.
