I love moments like this. The kind where someone sends a link and says, ‘Hey. You should check this out.” Every so often these sporadic recommendations pan out completely, living up to the call to action they accompany. In this particular case, a friend sent me Kaya Sleep’s debut single Arm’s Length. This recommendation couldn’t have been more spot-on. So, as we music lovers so often do, allow me to continue the thread here by passing this on to you.

Arm’s Length is the first single from Saint John’s Kaya Sleep and arrives in advance of her debut four-song EP expected later this spring. Pairing the warm tones of ukulele and cello with Sleep’s equally warm and subtle voice, Arm’s Length touches on broken hearts, strained relationships and the need to push through life’s infinite list of emotional challenges. It’s a tearjerker for sure, but one that arrives neatly packaged with a strong sense of resolve thanks to the aforementioned combination of comforting tones.

The song was engineered, mixed and mastered by Marc Gosselin at Trillium House Studios near the tail end of 2021 and was made possible through the support of Saint John’s community-based artist hub Industrial Parks Collective.

As far as introductions go, this one’s about as memorable as they come. I can’t wait to hear what comes next.
