Multi-award-winning saxophonist and composer Joel Miller and his band will play their first public performance December 3 at the Tipsy Muse Café.
After three decades away, saxophonist and composer, Joel Miller is back.
Miller returned to his home province of New Brunswick during the pandemic, relocating from Montreal, where he lived for the past thirty years. Through the encouragement of his family and support from the local music community, Joel has assembled a new group to showcase his unique style of jazz.
Miller’s band features bassist Jason Flores (The Montgomery Street Band), drummer Andrew DeMerchant (Captial 6) and Joel Leblanc (Hot Toddy) on guitar.
“It’s been a dream come true playing with these guys,” says Miller. “They’re awesome, and such a great example of the homegrown talent that the province has to offer.”
Originally from Sackville, Miller got his passion for jazz music from his mother and her record collection. But it was his bass playing brother, Andrew, who suggested the saxophone at the dinner table one evening. Miller’s passion for music and his dedication has been recognized with a long list of honours, including a Juno award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album (Swim) and ECMA awards for his albums Swim (2012 Origin Records), Dream Cassette (2016 Origin Records) and UNSTOPPABLE (2019 Multiple Chord Music).
He lives and works in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
