Who has more fun than Jessica Rhaye and The Ramshackle Parade? If you take a look through the group’s videos on YouTube, one thing – beyond the music – is constant: smiles. It is easy to see how much this Saint John based ensemble enjoys each other’s company. And it is hard not to smile right along with them.
With their latest single and video, Come A Little Closer, released today, this joyful trend continues thanks in part to director Jordan Mattie who took Rhaye’s playful concept and ran with it. As the video plays through, Rhaye and her bandmates Bill Preeper, Sandy Mackay, Chris Braydon and Clinton Charlton toss instruments back and forth, pop in and out of different locations, and swap costumes with each new scene. It is a concept that plays heavily on what it means to make music with your friends. Pure joy.
“We threw an old guitar from room to room and scene to scene, wore some funky clothes and danced, so much that the house was actually moving,” said Rhaye. “I love how Jordan was able to stitch together the guitar throws and catches seamlessly in this fun, light hearted video.”
Come A Little Closer is the follow-up single to Sunshine Baby, both taken from the group’s forthcoming album. The song was co-written with fellow Saint John singer-songwriter, Brent Mason.
“This song took on many different arrangements and song titles during the pre-production stages for the album,” said Rhaye. “We wanted it to have a fun, loose, sun-kissed easy listening feel. Something to move and dance to.”
Jessica Rhaye and The Ramshackle Parade’s new album Sunshine Baby is due out May 5, 2023.
