Solo Chicken Productions’ the coop have teamed up with students from St. Thomas University as the first-ever Artists in Residence at the New Brunswick Provincial Archives. A unique partnership in an even more unique setting, this ensemble have been working since September to create an evening performance in celebration of the Archives’ 50th anniversary.
“We started the project in early September and have been interacting with the space itself and some archival material,” said SCP’s Lisa Anne Ross.
“We’re using some archival material to create responses to history, but we’re not doing historical vignettes. We’re using what we find – which could be anything from a laundry list from 1870 to photographs, audio material, ticket stubs or election campaign signs – to inspire the work. We found some terrible and wonderful things.”
The collaborative residency will culminate with a public performance on Tuesday December 4 at the Archives, 23 Dineen Drive in Fredericton, complete with a sound score created using various archival recordings.
“We’ve really had fun working on this,” said Ross.
the coop was created as a home for contemporary artists to develop and perform original works of physical theatre.
