The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival will roll out the red carpet this fall as they welcome two iconic musical acts to the province. Organizers have announced Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Mavis Staples and five-time Grammy Award winners The Blind Boys of Alabama as two of the acts planned for the festival’s 2018 lineup.
Staples’ began her career in music performing as a member of Stax Records alumni, The Staples Singers before embarking on a highly successful solo career. An influential performer, musical collaborator and civil rights activist, Staples is revered by many as an icon of Rock and Roll history and a true living legend.
The Blind Boys of Alabama first performed together in 1939 and have been touring for seven decades bringing the rousing sounds of Southern Gospel music to audiences around the world. Through countless performances, dozens of albums and several lineup changes, these “titans of gospel” remain one of music’s most inspiring acts.
