Jon Mckiel & WHOOP-Szo Make Pop/Drone/Rock Magic
Greville Tapes Music Club | Media Release
…two artists, one amazing space, and four days to make some magic.
The fourth session in the Greville Tapes Music Club series brings together slacker-rock mastermind Jon Mckiel (Sackville, NB) and sludge-folk acrobats WHOOP-Szo (London, ON). They’re shaking hands for the first time in the Quarantine, a farmhouse studio in Port Greville, Nova Scotia, on May 1st, 2016. Under the watchful eyes of Quarantine head honchos Colleen Collins and Dave Trenaman (who form spook-rock duo Construction & Destruction), the two groups will work for four days to create a collaborative recording.
When asked on his thoughts about the project, WHOOP-Szo contributor and London’s DIY King Adam Sturgeon said: “…this is really a chance for us to get to know someone we consider to be an unrivalled songwriter. Not entirely sure if listening to his last record on repeat counts for too much, but that is certainly the case.
We’re a lo-fi type band, usually setting up in inspiring spaces and seeing what happens. I think Port Greville will be no less inspiring…”
