Psychobilly punks set to start Living Roots Music Festival off with a bang.
The second annual Living Roots Music Festival gets off to a rowdy start tonight as Edmonton’s Raygun Cowboys bring their own brand of psychobilly punk rock n’ roll to Grimross Brewery along with special guests Seth Anderson and Brian Wahlstrom.
Formed in 2000, the Raygun Cowboys spent several years touring Western Canada before eventually taking the coast to coast plunge. In 2007 the original trio expanded to include a two piece horn section. As a five-piece, the band have toured Europe, backed up rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson at the Edmonton Folk Festival and most recently, have released their fourth full-length album.
The Cowboy Code (Union Label Group 2017) is an 11 track album that “harkens back to the days of smoky gin-joints and speakeasies while cutting a modern edge to the classic rockabilly style”. The band also pay tribute to Edmonton punk pioneers SNFU with a cover of the band’s Painful Reminder.
Joining the Raygun Cowboys for their first Living Roots Music Festival appearance are Canmore, Alberta folk rocker Seth Anderson and San Diego piano punk, Brian Wahlstrom.
Anderson and Wahlstrom have both released music on Joey Cape’s (Lagwagon) record label, One Week Records.
