(Moncton NB – Monday, August 28, 2017) – Denis Richard, one of Acadie’s greatest artists, lost his battle with cancer at 9 am yesterday morning, Monday, August 28, 2017. The 55 year old passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton while listening to Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
Born on September 12, 1961, Denis Richard was known as one of Acadie’s most talented singer songwriters. His first album, “C’est mieux comme ça” released in 1996 contained now classic Acadian songs such as “Petit-Rocher”. He also wrote songs for the theatre and cinema as well as for artists such as Zachary Richard, Jean-François Breau, and Roch Voisine. Richard also launched two albums for the theatre: “Laurie ou la vie de galerie” and “Les défricheurs d’eau”. After dedicating many years to his acting career, Richard launched a much-awaited fourth album, “Chansons et autres flâneries…” (Le Grenier musique) in of 2015. The album has been a steady seller and continues to gain ground in the charts.
