This summer, Connection Dance Works welcome the return of choreographer Darryl Tracy to develop and complete the work, With Far Arms, an original 60 minute performance piece that blends contemporary dance with sound, light and film design.  Working together with New Brunswick filmmaker Chris Gilles, Tracy and a select group of dancers from the company will revisit this work that first began five years ago.

“This is a project we started in 2011 working with Darryl Tracy,” said Connection Dance Works’ Joanna Bryson. “He is a choreographer based out of Toronto but is originally from Moncton. We received an artist in residence grant back then and he started working on this new piece with the four of us.”

The company has kept in contact with Tracy since that first visit in hopes of completing the work and eventually bringing a full produced production to the stage.  Tracy will be a guest of the company this summer to work with the project team as well as offering a public workshop as part of the Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival.

“He doesn’t want this work to go away and has been trying to get back here to continue developing it,” said Bryson. “We just received another artist in residence grant from artsNB, and we’re looking to raise more funding to help bring the project to the stage.”

To support the continued development of With Far Arms, Connection Dance Works have been running a fundraising campaign to raise additional funds.

“It’s really exciting,” said Bryson. “This is the first fundraising campaign we’ve ever tried and it will help pay for things like artist fees and rehearsal space.”

There are seven days remaining in the company’s fundraising campaign, which has so far reached over 60% of its $2500 goal. Visit the campaign this week and help bring this exciting made-in-New-Brunswick performance to the stage.
