Fredericton expands artist in residence program for 2020 with fourteen artists set to create and educate in Odell Park and the Fredericton Botanic Gardens all summer long.
The City of Fredericton’s Summer Artist in Residence Program is now underway with artists working at both Odell Park and the Fredericton Botanic Garden.
Between July 6 and August 28, a total of fourteen artists from the Fredericton area will create work across a variety of disciplines, drawing on these two unique city locations for inspiration.
“Many organizations and businesses have had to adapt to new public safety guidelines over the past three months due to the pandemic, and this program is no exception,” said Angela Watson, Cultural Development Officer for the City. “This year’s artists have been challenged to create their works solely outdoors, without relying on a traditional studio space. What seemed like a challenge actually has the added benefit of creating a more immersive residency experience for the artist and park and garden users.”
The public is invited to interact with the artists to learn about their work, while maintaining appropriate distancing guidelines. This year’s residencies will receive additional support and exposure through regular social media updates. Visitors to either location, as well as followers on social media will see a range of traditional and innovative artistic practices including fibre and textile arts, photography, weaving, writing, music, movement, painting, as well as digital painting. Information on all participating artists can be found at Fredericton.ca/ArtistInResidence
