Theatre UNB presents two plays by Eugene Lonesco, Nov. 30 – Dec. 2 at Memorial Hall.
Theatre UNB is set to stage Cats, Cockatoos, and Caca, a double-bill of one-act comedies by the renowned pioneer and master of the Theatre of the Absurd, Eugene Ionesco.
In Jack, or the Submission a family is thrown into turmoil over their son’s disdain for hashed brown potatoes and his obstinate rejection of the bride they have chosen for him, on the grounds that she is not ugly enough and does not have enough noses. In The Bald Soprano a hilariously dull evening between the Smiths and their even more painfully boring dinner guests, the Martins, is enlivened by a visit from the Fire Chief, and stories, romance, and surprises galore ensue.
In the strange, funny, and surreal world of Lonesco, things are never quite what they seem. Logic and reason operate only fleetingly, under new rules, language breaks down, and words are reinvented.
Directed by Len Falkenstein, Cats, Cockatoos, and Caca will be performed by a cast of twelve Theatre UNB students, and will be performed nightly from Thursday, November 30 through Saturday, December 2 at 7:30 PM nightly at Memorial Hall, UNB. Tickets ($14 regular, $10 seniors and underemployed, and $8 for students) are available at the door. For more information, phone 506 447-3078 or email lfalken@unb.ca
