Artists In Residence Summer 2016

Fredericton Arts AllianceThe Fredericton Arts Alliance invites submissions for our Fifteenth Artist in Residence Summer Series. We seek emerging and experienced artists working in any media, including architecture, performance, music, dance, media, literary arts, visual art and fine craft. Artists from diverse cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

This year we are asking artists to reflect on beginnings. The city has recently welcomed refugee families from Syria, and people from many other corners of the globe have also made Fredericton their new home. What does it mean for the newcomers? And what does it mean for Fredericton and for the people who have always called Fredericton home? As different artists in varied media focus their creative energies on this theme, we hope to engender discussion among the artists and with members of the public – both local and visitors, who visit the residencies over the summer.

The residences will take place at the Soldiers’ Barracks, Historic Garrison District from June 6 to September 5. Each residency lasts for one week.

Interested artists are asked to indicate how they intend to approach the theme in their written application. Application forms and application guidelines are available on the Fredericton Arts Alliance website – frederictonartsalliance.ca. More information is available by email to president@frederictonartsalliance.ca.

Theme: New Ground – exploring what it means to come to a new place or to come to new understandings of place; the idea of home and of remaking the idea of home.

The Fredericton Arts Alliance hopes to be able to mount an exhibition of work produced over the summer, but that is not yet confirmed.

Deadline: Applications must be received no later than 4 p.m. May 13, 2016
