Saint John quintet The Backstays have shared the first single from their forthcoming debut EP. The appropriately titled single ‘Dreams’ is a powerful introduction to the group, drawing together hints of new wave and dreamy pop with straight ahead rock momentum. Lyrically, the track is a decidedly pensive look at life’s unpredictability and the acceptance that must accompany moving forward into the unknown.

The song is basically about looking to the future and thinking about whether or not what you might have always seen as how your life might be like is actually attainable,” said co-founder, vocalist and guitarist Pete Johnston. “That comfortable middle class lifestyle with job security and pensions. I don’t know many people who are looking at a life like that. But we can still get together with a beer and rag on about it with buds.”

The Backstays will celebrate the release of their debut EP with a release show at Saint John’s Five and Dime on August 2.

Upcoming Dates:

June 29 | The Capital Complex | Fredericton, NB
June 30 – July 1 | Market Square Boardwalk | Saint John, NB
August 2 | Five and Dime | Saint John, NB

The Backstays are Pete Johnston (Vocals/Guitar/Harmonica), Serenna Chapman (Piano/Violin/Vocals), Keith Whipple (Bass/Vocals), Derek Hilchie (Synthesizer/Organ) and Lorne Kirkpatrick (Drums).
