In a city filled to the brim with artists doing all sorts of inspiring work, it can be difficult to pinpoint one individual whose contributions deserve unanimous praise. But after looking over the past year’s numerous releases, performances and tours, we decided it only made sense to name Cedric Noel Grid City Magazine’s Artist of the Year for 2015. With his vibrant personality and his devotion to both his own music and the community that supports him, Noel is a champion of our city’s art scene, an inspiring musician and a treasured friend to so many.
Over the past year he has accomplished much. Noel toured the country as a member of David R. Elliott’s band (bass) and opened the shows each night with a solo set of his own material. He also delivered a stunning vocal performance on Dillon Anthony’s Four Stories EP, formed the collective label/management project Front Porch Records with Brookside Mall’s Brendan MaGee, collaborated with avant-garde noise scientist Tate LeJeune to create the new project C-N-U-S, and is one of four musicians in Heather Ogilvie’s latest project, Laps. On top of all that, Noel has continued to record and release new music of his own dropping several tracks over the past twelve months.
Congratulations Cedric. You’re an inspiration to us all.
