Saint John Theatre Company’s Script Happens event takes place June 13-16 at the BMO Studio Theatre.
The plays have been selected and the scripts have been honed for this year’s installment of Script Happens, the Saint John Theatre Company’s annual playwriting competition. This year’s event features three plays and highlights the work of Nancy Kenny, Jamie Bradley and Bet O’Toole.
Over the past year, the winning playwrights have worked with dramaturge Pamela Halstead to prepare their work for its public debut. Halstead is the current artistic director with Halifax’s independent theatre collective, DMV Theatre. She was artistic director at Ship’s Company Theatre for six seasons and directed Theatre New Brunswick’s 2014 production of The Net.
This year’s Script Happens plays are:
Everybody Dies in Decemberby Nancy Kenny
a thoughtful, sometimes humorous, often moving, portrayal of one woman’s search for meaning and her place in life.
Jukie & Her Dad, by Jamie Bradley
a poignant journey into the mind of a young woman as she struggles to cope with events in her past.
The Spider in the Tub by Bet O’Toole
a fun and insightful look at a relationship as it is tested by the realities of aging.
