Dartmouth-based singer/songwriter plays York County Cider Wednesday May 16.
Ian Janes is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer living in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Janes’ latest release,Yes Man, has been met with immediate and overwhelmingly positive critical acclaim. The record was given four out of five possible stars by Rolling Stone France, chosen as ‘disc of the day” by Le Journal de Montréal, was nominated for four 2017 Music Nova Scotia awards and nominated for Pop Recording of the Year at the 2018 East Coast Music Awards.
In March 2017 Ian’s song Can’t Remember Never Loving You was used to close the mid-season finale of the hit TV show Nashville. The song vaulted into the U.S Top 50 iTunes chart the week after the show’s airing, as recorded by the show’s two stars – Connie ‘Rayna’ Britton and Charles ‘Deacon’ Esten. The song was co-written with veteran Nashville songwriter Byron Hill (George Straight, George Jones, Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick). Ian’s own version of the song was released on January 12, 2018.
A bilingual artist, Janes’ first single, Broken Record, was released in both French and English and saw regular airplay on CBC, Clic Franco, Sirius XM, Stingray and many commercial formats. His second French single, À perte de vue, was released in early September 2017 and by late December had climbed up to #14 on the Canadian francophone charts. His third French single Dit oui was released on February 16th and has already entered the top 100.
As a busy father of three, Ian has had more success writing songs when on the road! He wrote the infectious Yes Man opener Used with Andy Stochansky (Goo Goo Dolls, Ani DiFranco, Shannon Noll), and Jamie Hartman (Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Rag N Bone Man, James Bay) in Los Angeles, and wrote the burning soul vibes of Lying Awake with Lee Ann and Daryl Burgess (Irma Thomas, Colin James, Patty Loveless) on one of his regular writing trips to Nashville. Back in Nova Scotia he co-wrote the title track Yes Man with Joel Plaskett.
