Saint John’s Holiday Season Is Officially Underway

Category: stage 150

Saint John Theatre Company’s production of It’s A Wonderful Life, opens this week at the Imperial Theatre.

Saint John Theatre Company launches its 2017-2018 Main Stage Season this week with one of the first holiday productions to hit the province’s stages this year.

Based on the film by Frank Capra, SJTC’s production of It’s A Wonderful Life, was adapted by Philip Grecian and takes the form of a 1940’s live radio drama and follows the life of troubled businessman George Bailey.

The iconic holiday staple follows the life of George Bailey, a down on his luck businessman. An angel is sent from Heaven to help George see the impact he has had on those around him. A Christmas miracle takes place when he sees what life would be like if he had never been born!

“There is a special energy to this time period – America in the 1940’s,” said director Scott Thomas, speaking in an SJTC media release. “The U.S. had just discovered the powerful extent of its global impact and its nearly limitless achievements.  There was such a drive and energy – everything was possible.  You can hear it in the radio dramas of the time – sincerity and earnestness.

“There is so much about this story that gets to me,” he said. “I think it’s simply the idea that people need to be reminded how much of an impact they can have on others and the importance of the choices you do make versus the unachievable dreams we all long for.”

There will be six performances in total beginning with the opening night show, Wednesday November 22.
