Grant to Assist Development and Sustainability
CHSR 97.9 FM, Fredericton’s campus/community radio station is excited to announce it has received a substantial grant from the Community Radio Fund of Canada, worth approximately $30 000, in development funding to be used towards Fundraising and Advertising Development.
This is the second grant CHSR has received from the Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) Radiometres program. CHSR first received the grant in 2012 and the funds were used to create a full-time Volunteer Coordinator position.
With this grant, CHSR will be hiring two contract positions; an Ad Sale Representative and a Fundraising Director. These individuals will help secure much needed revenue for the station. Since CHSR is a non-for-profit organization, the revenue generated from these positions will assist in the station’s operating costs.
“The funds received from the CRFC Radiometres program will allow CHSR to create a team that will work with the current staff on fundraising initiatives.” says Tim Rayne, Station Manager. “This will allow CHSR to continue to provide local programming, and help maximize our resources.”
The funding for Radiometres is provided by Canada’s private radio broadcasters through their Canadian Content Development (CCD) contributions, a funding mechanism established by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). These contributions play an important part in the success of the Canadian radio broadcasting system’s community sector. More information on this program.
CHSR 97.9 FM in Fredericton is a campus-based community station based out of the Student Union Building on the University of New Brunswick campus. Established as a student club in 1961, it has now grown into a vital alternative voice for the community while providing practical training-and-development hub for students and community members. It now broadcast on FM throughout all of the greater metropolitan Fredericton area, as well as streaming online and digitally as podcasts. We are a volunteer-driven radio station, drawing volunteers from both the UNB and STU campuses as well as from the greater Fredericton community. We are committed to providing an alternative to mainstream radio, both in terms of musical content and spoken word coverage.
