Festival (506) kicked off this evening with the 8th annual Prix MNB Award Show, held this year at Moncton’s Tide & Boar. The event launches a busy three days for musicians and music industry folks with showcase performances and conferences happening throughout the city.
Moncton’s The Divorcees took home one of the biggest awards of the evening, winning Album of the Year for their recording, From Labour Top Refreshment. And Saint John’s Jessica Rhaye won Solo Recording of the Year for her album, Song In Me. les Païens, Tomato Tomato, Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire and City Natives also had their creativity honoured in fine form, each taking home two awards as part of the evening’s festivities.
“The MNB Awards Show is a great way for us to kick off Festival (506),” says Jean Surette, MNB Executive Director. “It feels like a big family reunion and gives us a chance to acknowledge the great music being created, produced and played across New Brunswick all year round.”
The Directors’ Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to industry veteran Yolande Bourgeois. Yolande Bourgeois has worked with many cultural organizations over the past 30 years including the Francofête en Acadie, the Acadian World Conference, the Accros de la chanson and the provincial Council of cultural societies. A founding member of the Music•Musique NB Board of Directors, Yolande also headed the Arts Development Branch for the province of New Brunswick.
