A Charlie Brown Christmas with Jerry Granelli headed to Fredericton, Moncton and Saint John.
Shivering Songs have begun rolling out announcements in the lead-up to the eighth edition of the popular mid-winter festival set to take place January 18-21, 2018.
On September 19, organizers announced a performance by festival favourite, The Weather Station and special guest Bernice planned for December 10 at Yogagrow’s studio, 441 King Street. And today, they’ve announced the three city holiday tour, A Charlie Brown Christmas, featuring drummer Jerry Ganelli, the last surviving musician from the legendary Vince Guaraldi recording session.
Over half a century ago in 1965, drummer Jerry Granelli spent three hours in a San Francisco studio with bassist Fred Marshall and the incomparable Vince Guaraldi. That’s all it took to lay down the soundtrack for A Charlie Brown Christmas. While that album is viewed as an undeniable classic and part of the canon today, Jerry was paid a mere hundred dollars for his time. That marked the only money he would receive from the session, and thanks to a clerical error at the record label, he was mistakenly left off of the album credits for decades. Now the only surviving member of that Vince Guaraldi Trio line-up, Jerry was moved to assemble a band and return to the stage after a chance conversation on a beach in Nova Scotia three years ago. In concert with Simon Fisk (bass), Chris Gestrin (piano) and a local children’s choir, Jerry shares the songs and stories behind A Charlie Brown Christmas. The show is full of spirit, both for the holidays and the phenomenal music behind this seminal holiday album.
