Escape The Ordinary

Escape The Ordinary presented by Bernard Cormier was an audience participation moment that melded with his mental magic. From the number trick which ended with random numbers equaling Thursday’s date, (He does a variant of this trick every performance.) to the Borgia dinner party, this show is a must for the magic enthusiasts.**** – DF

The Lost Gentleman /Le Gentleman Perdu

The Lost Gentleman /Le Gentleman Perdu created and performed by Jean-Francois Plante-Tan is a story of love lost and gained, and gained and lost and… well you get where I’m going with this. Jean-Francois is enthusiastic as a young man taught to be a gentleman and who has dating figured out… not really. Egos on both sides of his dating equation strain any romantic chances. The play in it’s very humorous way, dissolves any outdated paradigms of love. ***** -DF

Illustrated Lady

Illustrated Lady is written and performed by Sophie Postcroteau. It has a noir-esque feel, contrasting darkness with stark lighting from lamps pointed at different angles; and images projected on a screen behind her. An intimate style of storytelling, Sophie frequently refers to herself as a weird, but she is more charming than odd. Part memoir and part performance art, Sophie is engaging and genuine. She is a little hard to hear at times, so sit close to the front, but not too close if needles make you queasy. Don’t miss out on this unique performance. ***** – AK

Smashes

Smashes is written and performed by Franny McCabe Bennett. This one-person piece is part comedic monologue, part historical memoir. It is produced with very little technical elements aside from sound and a trunk full of props. Franny dresses and undresses in front of the audience, quite literally baring her soul as she transitions from reading love letters from Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and recalling her personal struggles with her own sexuality. Franny is a marvelous actor, making it difficult to to tell what is improvised and what is rehearsed. A quippy, slapsticky romp, you will entertained from start to finish. Be sure to sign her book after the show. ***** – AK
