(Moncton) As Atlantic Canada’s largest literary happening, the Frye Festival feeds imaginations and celebrates words through books and music. Talented singer songwriters and musicians Mo Kenney and Maggie Savoie will take part in this year’s Soirée Frye at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton on Friday, April 28 at 7:30 pm.

Soirée Frye will also feature readings by award-winning authors Yves Beauchemin, Diana Gabaldon, Véronique Ovaldé, and Madeleine Thien.

Music will also be one of the highlights of the Frye Jam hosted by the Moncton-based jazz-fusion act Les Païens on Saturday, April 29 at 8 pm at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre. The band will provide improvised background music for readings by Festival authors: Stéphanie Boulay, Ulrikka S. Gernes, Véronique Ovaldé, Iain Reid, and Zoe Whittall. Québécois poet Jean-Paul Daoust will present his performance LE BEST OF DE JEAN PAUL DAOUST. Poet flyée Christine Melanson will also be a part of the evening during which she will perform her poème flyé. The public will be able to take in projections by local artist Carole Deveau.

Nova Scotia singer-songwriter Mo Kenney’s style has been described by some as “bouncy and brutally honest folk songs”. Her sophomore album In My Dreams was nominated for a Juno Award (Adult Alternative Album of the Year – 2016). The album, which was recorded in Joel Plaskett’s studio, was recently released in the US. Fans of Mo Kenney’s 2012 self-titled debut album will undoubtedly noticed the songs on her second album are plugged in and blown out, making her sound bigger and more rock leaning.

Originally from Kedgwick, New Brunswick, Maggie Savoie released her first solo project, a folk album titled Le Sage du Bois de Chauffage, in 2015. Maggie spent a good part of 2016 touring in the Atlantic Provinces and in Quebec, as well as in France and Switzerland. She is one of the artists starring in the music show L’Acadie se raconte which has been performed 90 times in France.

Les Païens have crafted a blend of jazz, rock and electronic loop based instrumental music that crosses over into uncharted territory through improvisation. The jazz/rock anomaly of eastern Canada has been producing albums and touring major festivals for the past 23 years and recently released their 9th album, Carte noire.
