Beauts embark on Eastern Canadian Tour

Beauts hit the road in support of their sophomore EP, Waves/Wash.

Only NB Date: The band play Sackville, NB’s Thunder & Lightning on Sept 23.

Teeming with frantic energy beneath the haze of city lights, Beauts deliver achingly melodic pop-rock full of bittersweet hooks and shout-along choruses. On Waves/Wash, their second offering, the band once again channels the sweaty, anthemic summer drive of groups such as Japandroids and The Hold Steady, while wearing the influence of acts such as Wolf Parade and McLusky on their rolled-up sleeves.

Presented under the cover of chiming distorted guitars, driving bass lines, and seasoned story-telling, the four songs on Waves/Wash find Beauts exploring new territory while echoing the foundation laid out on their 2015 self-titled debut. Whether through the Constantines-inspired fuzz bass and the well-versed punk rock sneer on the first single, Covers, the shimmering Cure-like post-pop riffs on Ether, or the undeniable euphoric party chants (“My town! Not your town! / My crime! Not your crime!”) on the EP’s title track, Waves/Wash crystalizes the path forward for the five-piece band from Halifax, NS.

Sacrificing trendiness for gusto and chops for ferocity, Beauts are champions of circumstancial nostalgia. Neither maudlin nor graceful, their songs encapsulate narratives of tenacity and foolhardiness and couple them with a cautious eye towards the future. Like watching youth fade in the rearview mirror, these are songs that simultaneously burn with longing and glisten with anticipation.
