Saint John’s grungey, garage rock quartet Right Shitty will be hitting the road this summer in support of their 2016 full length debut, Bachelor of Arts (Monopolized Records).  Since the album’s release last March, the group welcomed new bassist Gavin Downes (Little You, Little Me/Balaclava) following the departure of Levi Ellingwood.

“The new line up is basically the result of some unfortunate stuff that went down between me and the old bass player,” said Right Shitty guitarist/vocalist Steve Ricketts. “Gavin was our friend who had already learned some of the bass parts so we just asked him to join. He’s a good musician and an enthusiastic and hardworking dude so it’s good to have him in the band.”

Drummer Pat Bonner has been playing as a member of Downes’ project Balaclava since the winter, making the transition to Right Shitty’s rhythm section that much easier. The two have a long history of shared musical lineage.

“I started playing drums for Balaclava and Gavin started playing bass for us during our east coast tour with Dead Broke,” said Bonner.  “I love playing with Gavin. He filled in for Stegosaurus (catchy noise trio featuring Bonner) once like a year ago, and we also wrote an EP over the course of five drunk hours once called Monk Dust (worth a listen).  He’s been in like four hundred bands over the last two hundred years so we have it down to a science.”

With a new lineup comes new energy. New tunes are in the works and the band is already looking towards a fall tour and further recording.

“We are recording a new EP really soon, like next week or something,” said Ricketts. “We actually have a lot of new material. We always try to write as much as we can.”

“We’re going to release the EP and then tour in October if all goes as planned,” said Bonner. “Then we’ll probably start working on something new for the spring.”

Right Shitty’s summer tour begins August 18 in Moncton at Spin-It Records.
