New Fredericton band combines a wealth of experience and a love for pop punk with a name everyone can get behind.
After months spent dropping hints online about their latest project, the members of CHIPS will soon make their long awaited hometown debut when they join Saint John’s Right Shitty for a show at The Capital Complex with guest headliners Dead Broke from Ontario.
What do we know about CHIPS? Well, for starters, the band is made up of Luke Bailey, Kyle Albright, Lance McNeill, Aaron Bravener and Adam Guidry – five musicians whose collective background involves a slew of past and present NB acts including The Belle Comedians, Oh No Theodore, Scumlord, Yorks, Stereo Airing, Mayors, The Ray Finkles, The Hypochondriacs and others.
“The idea started because the five of us have been friends for so long from playing in different bands over the years and we all had this common interest in punk rock,” said vocalist Adam Guidry. “I also missed being a front-man for the last five years so I really wanted to get to this point again. I play drums in all of my other projects so being a front-man is something that I am really excited about doing again. Also, there isn’t a lot of pop punk bands in the area. You can expect a lot of energy and gang vocals and such.”
While they may not sound anything like Black Eyed Peas, Cream, Peaches, Cake or even Bread, the group may be the first Fredericton act to take an edible title. And they certainly chose wisely – who doesn’t like chips? The real test will be whether of not they can live up to such a strong and appealing name.
The band are currently wrapping up work on their debut recording and will be playing a short series of shows in the weeks ahead.
