The Capital Complex have just announced a whole slew of upcoming performances.
This year’s lineup of Pre-Pop performers includes Dear Rouge, Peter Katz, Fred Woods and Andy Shauf, with more artists to be announced in the coming weeks.
Also, Toronto’s Elliott Brood will be making a visit to Fredericton in November. Here’s a quick look at some of the acts included in this week’s announcement.
Peter Katz
Peter Katz brings his We Are The Reckoning Tour to the East Coast this fall.
“If you want to make something that’s like nothing you’ve made before, then you have to shake yourself up, go beyond what’s comfortable and known and let yourself feel disoriented, overwhelmed, even intimidated,” said Katz, talking about his latest release. “Those moments, when you lose your bearings, when you’re forced to sink or swim, are the moments when you have an opportunity to rise to the occasion, to surprise yourself, to do the things you didn’t know you could do. That’s what making this album was for me, I’m so proud of the process, and I’m so proud of the result.”

Andy Shauf
Andy made his Fredericton debut last winter during Shivering Songs and now he’s coming back. If you were one of the folks who fell in love with his music prior to his performance, you’re most likely incredibly pumped to know he’ll be back in town soon. If you’re one of the folks who complained about his voice, the way he phrased words or that he was “a real downer”, we highly suggest you give him another listen. Bearer of Bad News might just be the best album you’ll ever hear.

Fred Woods
Fred Woods is a Montreal-based musician who, like Shauf, can pen a captivating song. His minimalist, ambient electro-folk has led him to stage across Canada and Europe. We’re pretty lucky to have him stopping by for a show in October. This will be an amazing evening.

Dear Rouge
Described by Universal Music Canada as “Vancouver-bred alternative-electro-dance-rock”, Dear Rouge’s debut album Black to Gold was listed as one of Radio 3’s 15 Most Anticipated Albums of 2015. They’ve also won over $110,000 in songwriting prizes. They’ve either got some great connections in the music mafia, or are in fact great songwriters. We’re going to go with the latter.

Elliott Brood
For their fifth album, Elliott Brood wanted to break things.
2008’s Mountain Meadows was shortlisted for the Polaris Prize, and the band’s last record, Days Into Years, won a 2011 Juno award for Roots Album of the Year, both co-produced with John Critchley. Now was the time to smash the precedents, break the mould. To withdraw to a farmhouse in Bath, Ontario, hammering out nine songs in two weeks.
For the first time, Elliott Brood decided to hand over the reins to a producer: Ian Blurton, who has helped make roaring records for the Weakerthans, Skydiggers and Cursed. And for the first time, the group’s two songwriters decided to mine the bare histories of their own lives: penning verses about the ends of relationships and the tests of adulthood, long drives, childhood retreating in a rear-view mirror. “Work and love will make a man out of you,” the Constantines sang; and so here is Elliott Brood’s Work and Love, their most personal album to date, the sound of a grown-up band searching their hearts for all they’ve lost and gained.
