In our series Home Scene, Grid City asks music fans to share what they love most about the city’s music culture. This time we check in with CHSR station manager and independent filmmaker Tim Rayne.
What have you been listening too lately?
This is always my favourite time of year for Fredericton based music. Spring brings out a lot of new releases that excite me for the summer months. Right now I have been listening to the new Trick EP and I am also really enjoying the new Beach Body single Wings. There is so much to be excited for right now.
Most anticipated local release of 2015?
There are so many but to name a few off the top of my head, I would say the new Cedric Noel project, Young Satan in Love, Sam Salmon. I always like surprises, one of my favourite things is to discover new local music via Bandcamp. I like spinning them on CHSR’s Instant Breakfast.
Name the one Fredericton band you believe more people should know about.
I have two bands. First, I am going to have to say Moment of Inertia. Fronted by Pat Pelletier and supported by the Lockhart Brothers (Peter & Jeff) and Chuck Wilby on drums. They are straight out, uncompromising rock n roll that have one of the best LIVE shows in Fredericton. The second band is a hip hop outfit known as First Words. The band consist of local legends DJ STV, Sean-One, Above (St. John), and Jorun (Halifax). Because some of the members live out of Fredericton, it can be hard for the band to perform LIVE. However, last year they played a show I put together called The Reunion last year at the Capital and they proceeded to rip shit up. They are such an amazing band with great LIVE chemistry and their production is off the hook. They also have a hilarious self-deprecating humour in their music that makes their shows fun and exciting. We need more shows.
Looking back at the past year, what would you consider to be an important highlight for the city arts scene?
To be honest, there have been so many great events held throughout the past year in Fredericton, I would be hard pressed to pick out just one. Being at CHSR and listening to Mark Kilfoil’s The Lunch Box and reading the articles here on Grid City, there is always something exciting going on. I am very proud of the positive energy and support that artist collectives and determined individuals have in Fredericton. We are very lucky to have such an amazing talent pool in the Capital.
