The Charlotte Street Arts Centre (CSAC) has announced a full season of classes and workshops beginning in September. Under the slogan Art is for Everyone, CSAC’s fall programming includes several multi-week classes covering everything from watercolour and oil painting to sketch comedy, oral storytelling, printmaking and more. There are also a few shorter classes and weekend workshops still to be announced.
“Not to wish the summer away, but I’m really excited about the coming fall season and all the programming we’ve put together,” said Matt Carter, CSAC’s executive director. “It’s a pretty diverse mix that hopefully includes a little something for everyone’s creative tastes.”
Following a series of successful classes through the winter and spring, Carter says the Centre chose to “take it easy” over the summer months while continuing to collaborate closely with several artists involved in this fall lineup.
“It’s tough to make plans in the summer,” said Carter. “There are so many things to do here in Fredericton during July and August. Our summer mindset seems to last right up until the Harvest Music Festival. Once Harvest is done, our brains collectively switch into fall-mode. Conveniently, that’s also when our first wave of classes begins. It’s almost like we planned it that way!”
This announcement also introduces the Centre’s new programming slogan, Art is for Everyone, which will be used in conjunction with all classes and workshops planned for the 2024/2025 season.
“We chose to brand our art engagement activities under the banner Art is for Everyone as a way to both encourage the community to take a chance and try something new, and to remind us to keep expanding and diversifying our programming,” said Carter. “Every month, our auditorium and community room play host to an incredible range of programming, from fundraisers and private events to public performances, dance classes, theatre shows and rehearsals, you name it. I want our programming to reflect this diversity. Our work should always aim to compliment, inspire, and reflect our community.”
CSAC’s schedule of fall classes and workshops will roll out over two sessions, the first beginning the week of September 16 with classes in oral storytelling, watercolour and oil painting, sketch comedy, figure drawing and acting. The second session begins in late October with classes in horror fiction writing, printmaking, crocheting, and a special watercolour class centered around recreating some of Fredericton’s well-known landmarks and scenic areas.
“There is a lot to be excited about,” said Carter. “We are very fortunate to have so many passionate instructors willing to share their talents with our community. I can’t wait to see our building come alive like never before when all the fun begins this fall. I plan to take a few of these classes myself. Let’s get creative together!”
