Symphony New Brunswick and Choeur Louisbourg team up for Mozart performances

SNB celebrates its 40th anniversary with Choeur Louisbourg and the music of Mozart, March 25-27.

Symphony New Brunswick joins forces with Choeur Louisbourg to celebrate the orchestra’s 40th anniversary in spectacular fashion. The program opens with Mozart’s revered Symphony no.40, after which the two ensembles combine for the composer’s majestic Requiem, featuring four acclaimed soloists: Suzanne Taffot (soprano), Rebecca Cuddy (mezzo soprano), and New Brunswick’s own Owen McCausland (tenor) and Branden Olsen (Bass).

“We had a wonderful collaboration with Choeur Louisbourg last year when we staged Handel’s Messiah together”, says Music Director Mélanie Léonard. “The choir’s director, Monique Richard, and I have a very productive working relationship, and we intend to pursue more of the same in the years to come. This year’s performance of Mozart’s Requiem brings to life one of the most cherished pieces in the repertoire. We are absolutely delighted to share it with concertgoers in Saint John, Moncton, and Fredericton.”

“Even if the account of The Requiem as portrayed in the 1984 Oscar Best Picture winning film Amadeus strays far from established fact, the glorious music trumps every historical indiscretion,” said SNB President Reid Parker. “Here we have music that transcends time and place, keeping us on the edge of our seats throughout. Coupled with the magnificent 40th Symphony, this program represents a stirring culmination of 40 years of growth and development that have led to Symphony NB’s current peak of artistic excellence.”

The Saint John performance on March 25 will be preceded by a Balcony Banter presentation at 6:30 p.m. by Symphony NB President Reid Parker.

This is the fifth of six programs in Symphony NB’s 23/24 Bravo Series, which is the orchestra’s primary means to create, produce, and present exceptional live concert experiences for the benefit of everyone in the province.
