February welcomes new work and new artists to the Gallery 78 family.
February is a month to celebrate new work at the Gallery 78. This month the walls of the gallery are adorned with new work from artists long associated with the gallery including Stephen May, Jonathan MacDonald, Raymond Martin, Steven Rhude, Stephen Hutchings and others.
February also welcomes figurative painter David Porter and woodworker Mac Meek to the Gallery 78 family.
Born in 1979, David Porter is an oil painter living and working in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He has been an Accountant (CPA-CMA), a professional musician, motorcycle racer, dog trainer, rock climber and amateur astronomer. Through it all, art has been his constant companion, to document his experiences and connect with the world around him.
Porter’s latest exhibition series Clarity of Mind – After Covid is currently on display.
“Clarity of Mind – After Covid is a series that encourages the viewer take a pause, to breathe, to appreciate, to question, to notice and hopefully to see the world a little differently… a little clearer,” notes Porter in his artist statement. Read his full statement here.
Mac Meek (he/him) identifies as a visual minority artist. His design process uses natural materials and reflects traditional building techniques created by hand and fabricated in Fredericton, NB. His piece Resource Recovery Stool is included in this month’s exhibition series.
