Andy Shauf shares new video ahead of Shivering Songs performance

Catch Your Eye is the latest single from Canadian songwriter Andy Shauf, taken from his upcoming album Norm, which arrives February 11.

When Shivering Songs brought Andy Shauf to town back in 2015, lives were changed. Touring in support of his self-released 2012 album, The Bearer of Bad News, which had just been rereleased on the Oregon-based record label Tender Loving Empire, Shauf, almost overnight, exploded to become a leading voice in a new generation of Canadian singer-songwriters. And Fredericton audiences were there to share in that special moment.

Shauf will be back in Fredericton for Shivering Songs 2023 to play a sold out performance on January 20. The show kicks off a 46 date tour in support of Norm which includes dates across Canada, the United States and Europe.

With Norm, Shauf has upended his songwriting methods, creating a deeply haunting and unpredictable universe. He’s tackling love and loss on a more panoramic, extreme scale, but Shauf feels the album is consistent with his earlier focus on small, intense encounters. He uses these close-ups to devastating effect, keeping us focused on the tiny connections between lonely creatures, while raising the stakes on the action to existential levels. There’s a story unfolding that leaps from song to song, illuminating the comedy and cruelty of humanity, but, if you listen closely, most of the action takes place in the gaps between tracks.
