Next Folding Theatre Company has announced an upcoming production of Uncle Vanya, written by Anton Chekhov, adapted by Conor McPherson, and directed by the one and only Ilkay Silk.

When it debuted in 1898, Anton Chekhov’s play Uncle Vanya was a work ahead of its time. Touching on themes of boredom, regret and the idea of a wasted life, the play’s relevance has continued to grow over time with the proliferation of time sucking preoccupations that yield little return when combined with our collective desire for more.
“This adaptation by Conor McPherson makes the characters easily relatable and tremendously entertaining,” says Silk. “Uncle Vanya shows us how we are all very complicated human beings searching for love and meaning in our lives. Sometimes that’s tragedy but most times it’s comedy.”
For its first production in more than two years, NFTC continues its mandate to welcome new and returning members into the fold including some who have never been on stage before.
“This production has felt like a reunion of sorts,” said Ryan Griffith, artistic director and NFTC co-founder, “which is sort of how the play feels when you watch it. Almost like a family reunion. For some of our cast members, this production marks the first time they’ve been back on stage in years. Other members are brand new or tackling performance elements they’ve never had the chance to try before.”
“The opportunity to embark on such a journey with this cast has been a real gift,” said Griffith.
