Psycho Bitch is a straight up grand slam of alternative pop goodness, mixing all the elusive magic of a commercial radio earworm with enough hard edged rock and roll gusto to bring even the most stoic and dismissive music critic to tears.

The last time I caught a performance by Saint John musician Sadie was during the Greville Tapes Music Club tour back in the spring. Teamed up with the Halifax indie rock trio Designosaur, Sadie’s voice, together with her charismatic stage presence, made for one of the evening’s most memorable performances. Leaving the show that night I couldn’t help but think how far she has evolved from the little known musician I first saw performing in the window of a Saint John clothing store during the inaugural Quality Block Party back in 2017.
What’s even more remarkable is the efficiency Sadie has demonstrated in plotting her own music career. Since first seeing her at QBP, she has become one of Saint John’s most talked about performers despite having only released one single, 2020’s Popcorn.
Yesterday welcomed the release of new music from Sadie, her first under her own name in nearly two years. Psycho Bitch is a straight up grand slam of alternative pop goodness, mixing all the elusive magic of a commercial radio earworm with enough hard edged rock and roll gusto to bring even the most stoic and dismissive music critic to tears.
Hats off to Monopolized Records’ Corey Bonnevie who played bass, drums and additional guitar on this track as well as recording, mixing and mastering the whole thing. Not to mention the incredible team who put this video together. As much as this new single is a win for Sadie, it is also a serious flex by one of Atlantic Canada’s most admired and least talked about music scenes. Saint John, I’m in awe.
I don’t put a lot of faith into music awards, but if Psycho Bitch doesn’t top one of Music NB’s ambiguous award categories this fall, THERE IS NO GOD! This single deserves so much more.
Psycho Bitch was released July 27 on Monopolized Records.
